Yes, I had another interview. I just couldn’t resist knowing what my blog friend, Hayley might ask me. (Sorry it took me so long to post this Hayley.) I think she came up with some good questions, so let’s hope I can answer them okay. Here goes…
1. Do you have any major regrets?
I try not to have too many regrets, because there are plenty of things that I could dwell on, but no good would come of it. And it’s hard to regret anything (even a not-so-good marriage) that gave me Shiloh. Of course I regret some attitudes I’ve had and small things I’ve said or not said, or done or not done. But nothing that really stands out. Just the usual stuff.
The one big regret that I have (and it will probably sound very small to most of you) is not finishing college. I was good at school. I hardly even had to study. But I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life at 18 and I was too interested in working and spending time with my boyfriend (now my ex-husband). So I stopped going to class. Now I’m 28 years old and a single mom with a very small income.
This year I’ve started thinking that I really need to go back to school. Problem is, I have to work, and I’m not going to sacrifice too much of my time with Shiloh. That wouldn’t be fair to her. But it also wouldn’t be fair to her if I couldn’t support her, which would be impossible for me right now if we didn’t live in my parents home. So I haven’t made any decisions yet, but I’m trying to look into careers that I know will pay better than what I make now (because otherwise it isn’t worth my time) and that will allow me to finish school in no more than two years. Hopefully something that I would only have to take one or two classes a week for. That way I can still see Shiloh.
I really regret that I didn’t do this long before having Shiloh. I hate that I have to take even more time away from her, but I have to be able to support her. I’m not going to sit around waiting on Prince Charming to rescue us. And I don’t want to be sitting here three years from now, regretting that I didn’t go back to school.
2. If you could have any job in the world what would it be?
Haha. Speaking of careers. Any job at all… I think I would choose to be a writer (if I could get some talent and inspiration to go along with my dream job), or maybe an editor.
I never wanted to be this before, but since having Shiloh, I’ve wished that I had a teaching degree so that I could have the summers off with her when she’s in school. I think I might enjoy teaching kindergarten or first grade, because kids still like to learn at that age. Plus you can do fun crafts! A highschool English teacher might be fun too (total dork, I know), but the kids would probably annoy me.
I also think it would be cool to be a surgical nurse. I won’t go to school for nursing, because I don’t think I could handle all the math or annoying patients, but I love surgery. I used to work at a vet’s office and helping with the surgeries was my favorite part. If I could just skip all the schooling and clinicals, I think this would be a cool job. (My mom recently finished nursing school, and trust me, there is no way I could handle it and a full time job and a child. No way.)
I think that I would also enjoy something with computers. Like designing web pages or something along those lines. I don’t know anything about it, but I’m very detail oriented and I think I would enjoy that.
Oh, and I would also love to be a stay at home mom. That’s a job, right? Of course it doesn’t pay very good and I have to keep Shiloh fed and clothed.
3. What is your favorite thing to do with Shiloh?
You guys are going to make fun of me when I tell you this. My most recent favorite thing to do with her is dance. Now I’m not a dancer by any means. I use the term “dance” very loosely. But lately, when we’re waiting on dinner to cook or if we hear a song on the tv, Shiloh will say, “Mommy, let’s dance.” and she’ll hold out her hands. We hold hands and jump and stomp and shake and twirl around and basicly make fools of ourselves. But there is no one around to see and I enjoy it as much as Shiloh does. How can I not when her whole face lights up? And I love hearing her laugh. (And did I mention that it’s great exercise? Seriously, the first time we danced for about fifteen minutes and the next day my stomach muscles were sore. So that’s a nice bonus.)
4. How did you come up with the name Shiloh? And did yours come before the ‘famous’ Shiloh?
Her name came from a baby name book. (Quite a story, I know.) I had at least three different books and I read every. single. name. in them. And the meanings. I wanted something original (couldn’t be because I live with the name Jennifer, could it?), but something that wasn’t too difficult to pronouce since we live in the south and… well, I’ll be nice.
I’ve never met anyone named Shiloh and I really liked the meaning too. It means ‘gift from God’, or ‘peaceful place’ depending on which book you look in. I also liked the fact that it’s kind of a Biblical name without being the basic Rebekah, Hannah, Sarah, Lydia, etc… (Nothing against those names. I like them, but it goes back to the original thing. I hate having such a popular name.) Shiloh was a place mentioned in the Bible in Joshua (around chapter 18).
I was actually upset when Angelina and Brad named their baby Shiloh. Shiloh Jolie-Pitt was born before my Shiloh, but I was pregnant at the time and had already decided on that name. I considered changing the name, but it had taken me so long to come up with it, so I decided to keep it. I have a feeling that the name Shiloh might end up being more popular than I had hoped, but so far it’s not in the top 100 (yes, I checked).
Oh, and a good portion of my friends and family didn’t like my choice of name, but I think it grew on them. My friend Cat was one who really didn’t like the name and now she says that she can’t imagine her with any other name. It fits her somehow.
5. If you could see one band/singer/performer live (living or dead), who would it be?
Strangely this is the hardest question for me. I love music, but I’m surrounded by musicians in my family and I’m well aware that I don’t know what’s good and what’s not like they do. I just know what I like. So this question is scary for me since I don’t have my brother next to me to ask if I’m a complete dork. (Okay, we already know the answer to that.)
I think, since it says living or dead, I’m going to pick The Beatles or Elvis. Not because I’m a huge fan or anything. I’ve never been to Graceland and I don’t own any cds from either one. (I admit that I used to watch Elvis movies when I was a kid.) But I have heard some of their stuff and the reason I would pick one of them is because, as far as music is concerned, they are pretty historical. If nothing else it would be fun to see young women freaking out when they walked on stage. Of course, I suppose I could see that at a Nickleback concert too.
As far as stuff I’m into right now, I like lots of different things. (Sometimes what my brother tells me I’m supposed to.) The things I’ve been listening to the most recently is Good Charlotte, 3 Doors Down, Our Lady Peace, I like some Nickleback (but I only have certain songs on my iPod because some of their stuff is a bit offensive for me), Breaking Benjamin, Saving Abel (except that I think they sing the song that embarrassed me on the radio at work), OneRepublic, A Fine Frenzy, Staind, and others that I can’t think of at the moment.
As far as Christian music, I like alot of the contemporary stuff. Jeremy Camp, Shaun Groves, Mercy Me (the newer stuff), Casting Crowns, Newsboys, Down Here, Jimmy Needham, December Radio, David Crowder Band, and others.
I think I’m supposed to offer to interview anyone who wants to play along, so I’m offering even though I did an interview last week and offered then too. If anyone didn’t play along with the last one, but wants to this time, leave me a comment saying “interview me” and I’ll e-mail you some questions.

New Republic is from Colorado
I like them too. What about becoming a Vet? Maybe there’s less schooling involved than becoming a surgical nurse. I hate being away from LB too, and it kills me to think that I’ll have to work all summer when she’s school age. I don’t know what I’m going to do. Somehow I’m sure both of us will survive (with a few tears shed).

Pisceshanna: From what I’ve heard, it takes as much or maybe even more college than it takes to become a doctor. Plus, I’m not that attached to animals either. I just like surgery.
And I dread the summertime when Shiloh’s in school, but I guess we’ll deal with it when we get there.

That’s true about vet school. Maybe a vet tech?
